The SmartRegs compliance deadline is Dec. 31, 2018 (which represents an eight year compliance timeline). As of July 31, the progress with SmartRegs compliance is that 18,673 (or 93%) of the ~20,000 licensed rental units are engaged in the SmartRegs process and 15,435 (77%) of those units are compliant. As for older, potentially more difficult homes to reach SmartRegs compliance, the city has a “technically Impractical” exemption process. Staff is posting that application process on the city’s website by the end of this week. I will be anxious to see what they come up with, but I have been satisfied with their program management so far!
